The body of K Vamsi Krishnareddy (13) was found floating in the pond waters by villagers who alerted police. During interrogation, it was revealed that Vamsi along with his elder brother Siva Krishna Reddy and two friends Gopi and Srinu had gone for a swim on Krishnashtami day on Thursday. They had a jolly time in the pond located close to Ankalla Parameswari temple.

After the swim, the quartet were coming back to the village in a country boat. When the boat reached the middle of the pond, Vamsi slipped into the waters. Siva and the two friends saw him raise an alarm but could not dare come to his rescue as it was raining. Vamsi tried in vain to ebb out but drowned. Siva came back home and kept Vamsi's drowning under wraps fearing his father Venkateswara Reddy would admomish him.

A worried father, who searched for his son on Friday, finally approached police. "After his mother's death I raised him. He was named after Lord Krishna and it was ironical he met the watery grave on Krishnashtami day," Venkateswara Reddy said, wailing inconsolably. Vamsi was studying in the local model school in Ipur.
