Saying that he was quitting politics because he cannot tell lies, Reddy told reporters that he would resign from the primary membership of YSRCP on Sunday. Reiterating that the reasons for his resignation are personal, Reddy said he would like to pursue farming and deliver guest lectures. He denied reports suggesting that the Kakinada seaport issue was the cause of his resignation.

Reddy mentioned that he had discussed his decision with Jagan. "I have cordial relations with Jagan Mohan Reddy's family for three generations, and I have never had any disputes with them. Jagan Mohan Reddy's popularity will not diminish even if a thousand people like me leave the party," he said.
