Historic first for Indian Navy

In a landmark event, INS Udaygiri (F35) and INS Himgiri (F34) will be simultaneously commissioned at the Eastern Naval Command, Visakhapatnam on August 26 — a first in Navy’s history.

Twin powerhouses set to join fleet

Powered by a combined diesel-or-gas system, they are managed through an Integrated Platform Management System for high endurance at sea, both ships represent a generational leap over previous Shivalik-class frigates.

Milestone for indigenoun design

Udaygiri is the 100th ship designed by the Indian Navy’s in-house Warship Design Bureau, a major milestone in self-reliant naval engineering.​

Made in India, built by many

The two ships are products of an ecosystem involving over 200 MSMEs, supporting nearly 15,000 direct and indirect jobs under Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

Advanced firepower and stealth

Displacing 6,700 tonnes, the frigates carry supersonic missiles, surface-to-air defences, close-in weapon systems and advanced anti-submarine gear, built for multi-mission warfare.

Stealthy, versatile, and indigenous, Udaygiri and Himgiri represent a generational leap over earlier designs with advanced sensors and reduced radar cross section.

Built by two Indian giants

INS Udaygiri i​s built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd (Mumbai) and INS Himgiri by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (Kolkata) — showcasing the strength of Indian shipyards.

India’s blue water future

The commissioning will mark a major step in India’s journey toward a self-reliant, blue-water navy, capable of operating in “a ‘Blue Water’ environment dealing with both conventional and non-conventional threats.
