IMD predicts heatwave in Rayalaseema & south coastal AP, thunderstorms in north AP

Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh is set to witness an unusual weather contrast over the next few days, with hot and humid conditions gripping Rayalaseema and south coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP), while thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds strike north coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP).The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave alert for isolated places in Rayalaseema on Tuesday (April 28), warning of hot, humid and uncomfortable conditions in SCAP. At the same time, isolated places in NCAP and Rayalaseema will experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning.Thunderstorms with lightning are likely at isolated places in NCAP, Yanam and Rayalaseema, while hot, humid and uncomfortable weather is expected at isolated places in SCAP from April 29 (Wednesday) to May 1 (Friday).Rayalaseema and parts of SCAP are already in the grip of scorching temperatures, with mercury soaring past 42°C in several locations on Monday. High temperatures and humidity were recorded in parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh (CAP). Jangamaheswarapuram in Palnadu district of SCAP was the hottest spot on Monday (April 27), at 42.7°C. Kadapa followed at 42.6°C, Kurnool at 42.5°C, Nandyal 42.4°C, Anantapur 42.1°C, Nandigama 40.7°C, Nellore and Tirupati 40.4°C each, and Amaravati 40.2°C.An appreciable rise (2.1°C to 4.0°C) was observed at one or two places in Rayalaseema, while no large change (-2.0°C to +2.0°C) was noted at many places in coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema on Monday.The IMD forecast said maximum temperatures will show no large change over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam from April 28 to May 1.
