Huge explosion at police station in Chittoor dist

Vijayawada: A massive explosion took place at Gangadhara Nellore police station in Chittoor district on Saturday.
According to the police, the explosion occurred when an explosive material stored in the premises of the police station exploded at 3:30 am on Saturday. No casualties were reported as there was no one around the storage site at the time of the blast.
DSP Sudhakar Reddy said the material was seized in June 2018 when it was being illegally transported by quarry operators in the region. It was buried at the rear side of the police station. The material suddenly went off early on Saturday morning and the loud explosion and fire created panic in the area. A few seized vehicles were gutted and doors and windows of the police station and adjoining houses were also damaged. A probe has been ordered.
