VIJAYAWADA

: The high court on Wednesday closed the

suo moto

petition taken up in the arrest of Dr K Sudhakar in Visakhapatnam. The CBI told the high court they have filed a charge sheet before the jurisdictional special CBI court.

The counsel for CBI, A Chennakeshavulu, told the high court that the state government granted approval for prosecution of accused officers. The CBI framed the charges against a sub-inspector, a head constable and a constable in the case. As the charge sheet has already been filed, Chennakeshavulu urged the high court to close the petition as they have completed investigation and filed charge sheet.

The amicus curiae, P Veera Reddy, also told the high court that there is no need for further adjudication of the matter as the CBI completed its investigation.

Considering the arguments from both sides, the high court bench headed by Chief Justice Prashant

Kumar Mishra

and Justice Satti Subba Reddy closed the petition with a direction to the CBI court to complete the trial expeditiously.

The high court took suo moto cognisance of a letter written by TDP functionary V Anita over the manner in which Dr Sudhakar was arrested by Visakhapatnam police. Dr Sudhakar was reportedly manhandled by the police on May 16, 2020. The high court had directed the CBI to investigate the case and monitored the investigation.
