Visakhapatnam: Helmet violations continue to dominate Vizag's traffic offence list, accounting for nearly 60% of all cases booked in the ongoing April 2026 special drives.
From Beach Road to Municipal Road, traffic discipline is thinning, with over 2,400 violations reported daily this month.
On average, police record 1,100 cases against two-wheeler riders without helmets and 250 against pillion riders. Helmet offences remain the largest category, with some motorists using low-quality, non-ISI helmets to evade checks, compromising safety, a senior officer said.
After helmet violations, overspeeding is the next major offence, with 200–250 motorists booked daily. Triple riding, mobile use while riding, and driving without valid licences are other violations, said ADCP (Traffic) K Praveen Kumar.
"Riders without helmets are stopped, educated, and fined ₹1,000. Half-helmets offer little protection, and delivery partners are often seen riding bareheaded. Non-compliance is common among young riders and pillion passengers, who underestimate head injury risks," police added.
In addition to the ₹1,000 penalty, police collect violators' licence details and forward them to the RTA, seeking three-month suspensions.
