Health, financial woes drive young couple to suicide

Vijayawada: A couple committed suicide by jumping into a lake in Mustabad of Gannavaram on Monday. Allegedly, the couple were depressed over their health and financial issues. According to the police, Pendem Vijaya Kumar (39) ran a cloth store at Satyanarayanapuram in Vijayawada and his wife Pendem Vijaya Sandhya (38) was a housewife who was suffering from varicose veins.The couple had gone to Chennai on Thursday for treatment and returned late on Sunday night. They went to sleep at night but went missing in the morning. Their elder son, Pendem Ruthvik (20), who is pursuing B.Tech, and his younger brother began to search for their parents and even enquired about them with relatives. While they were proceeding towards Vijaywada, they found their father’s bike at Peta Cheruvu lake in Mustabad village and found their parents’ bodies in the lake. Ruthvik told the police that his parents committed suicide as they were depressed due to ill health and debts. Police registered a case and launched a probe. TNN
