Visakhapatnam: A 44-year-old head constable with the prohibition and excise department was killed, and two others suffered severe injuries in a road accident when his bike was hit by another speeding bike near Kancharapalem in Vizag on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Lagudu Simhachalam Naidu, a resident of Susarla colony in NAD of Vizag and a head constable at Seethammadhara excise station in the city.
The locals said a speeding bike hit Naidu's motorcycle from behind when Naidu was heading towards Kancharapalem from Tatichetlapalem on Friday.
As a result of the collision, Naidu succumbed to his injuries. The two young men involved in the accident, Devupali Karthik and Botta Ekanth, sustained severe injuries and were admitted to a hospital, where their condition is said to be critical. The police registered a case, and the investigation is underway.
Excise minister Kollu Ravindra expressed grief over the death of Naidu in the road accident and said that the govt will extend support (a job to Naidu's family and Rs 1.1 crore amount through SBI insurance) to Naidu's family.
