Vijayawada: Doctors at the Vijayawada govt general hospital (GGH) successfully performed a complex surgery on a 14-year-old boy from Guntur, who was suffering from a rare tumour for the past seven years.
The boy was diagnosed with juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma (JNA), a rare condition that primarily affects adolescent males. Over time, the tumour spread to critical areas, including the nasal cavity, face, eye region and towards the brain, causing severe breathing difficulty, frequent nosebleeds and facial deformity.
The family approached GGH Vijayawada, where the case was taken up by the ENT department under the supervision of Dr Konide Ravi. A multidisciplinary team comprising anaesthesiologists Dr Vinay and Dr Kiran, assistant doctor Dr Ramaraju, ENT associates Dr Anita and Dr Srinivas and postgraduate doctors Dr Mukundan and Dr Mounika, along with staff nurses Samrajyam and Sandhya, successfully carried out the high-risk surgery.
Doctors confirmed that the tumour was completely removed, saving the boy from a life-threatening condition. The doctors further said the procedure marks a significant milestone for the govt hospital in handling such rare and complicated cases.
