Tirupati: The Kadapa district police have busted a gang peddling ganja and spurious liquor in Pulivendula town and arrested 18 persons involved in the crime. Following the instructions of Kadapa SP Shelke Nachiket Vishwanath, Pulivendula DSP B Murali and his team launched a crackdown following a tip-off at a vacant site near Velamavaripalli abutting the Kadiri ring road near Pulivendula and arrested 18 persons involved in ganja smuggling and arrack brewing.
The gang was reportedly getting ready to sell 15 kg of ganja when the members were caught red-handed. Additional information led to the arrest of eight more persons and the seizure of 110 litres of country-made liquor from their possession.
The prime accused, Gorla Bharat Yadav, already had several cases on his head filed by Pulivendula police. "While in remand, he came in contact with a ganja peddler, Sheik Riyaz, and later turned into a drug dealer," Nachiket told reporters at Pulivendula on Tuesday.
