Footage shows Jahnavi killed by speeding cop car in Seattle

Vijayawada: Sensational bodycam footage has emerged of Jahnavi Kandula from Kurnool being struck and killed by a police car in Seattle, USA. Jahnavi was killed on January 23 this year while crossing the street. She was fatally run over by a Seattle police car driven by Kevin Dave. According to FOX 13 Seattle, in the body camera video, a loud rumble of the engine was heard as Kevin’s speedometer shows speeds of up to 74 mph. Kevin was also heard saying “I f***** up” in the video and performing CPR on Jahnavi after the accident. A loud engine noise could be heard in the bodycam video as Kevin’s speedometer registered as much as 74 mph, much higher than the prescribed limits of 20 to 25 mph. “Lights were on. I was chirping the sirens…she was in the crosswalk. She saw me, she started running through the crosswalk. Slammed on my breaks. Started staying back where she should before crossing,” Dave can be heard in the video telling a responding officer.In other bodycam footage, Dave can be heard saying, “I can have a hundred minutes. I could have…there’s nothing for me to do right now, but sit. And that is the f****** worst thing that…you just have to sit here. So many questions that are unanswered, so many questions.”The Office of Police Accountability continues investigating whether Dave complied with department policy. According to the media in the USA, the prosecutor’s office said a decision on possible charges will likely come by early August.The 23-year-old girl Jahnavi was hit while walking near Dexter Avenue North and Thomas Street just after 8 pm on January 23. She was rushed to Harborview Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries.According to Seattle police department, the driving officer was on a ‘high priority one’ call at the request of the Seattle fire department. Detectives from the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad took up an investigation. Jahnavi is the elder daughter of Vijayalakshmi and Srikanth who hailed from MIG colony in Adoni. She completed her Bachelor’s in computer application in April 2019. She later went to Seattle to pursue her Master’s in information systems at Northeastern University in September 2021.
