Vijayawada: After remaining on the run for more than two months and keeping police teams across four states on their toes, alleged cyber fraudster Bhimudu Ajith Kumar, who escaped from Guntur Govt General Hospital (GGH) while in judicial custody, has finally been traced and arrested in
Tamil Nadu.
Ajith Kumar, a native of Nagannagudem village near Koppulavarigudem in Eluru district’s Pedavegi mandal, is accused of carrying out online frauds through the OLX platform. He was lodged as a remand prisoner when he allegedly escaped from GGH on March 28 this year after evading police personnel assigned to guard him.
Following his escape, police launched a massive search operation by forming four special teams. Investigators tracked leads across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, but the accused managed to remain elusive. Police sources said Ajith Kumar was well versed in technology and frequently discarded mobile phones and changed communication channels, making it difficult for authorities to trace his location.
Investigators believe that after fleeing Andhra Pradesh, Ajith Kumar shifted his base to Tamil Nadu and allegedly resumed online fraud activities. His alleged involvement in fresh OLX-related scams in Coimbatore eventually led to his arrest by local police. He was subsequently remanded to judicial custody there.
Information regarding his arrest was shared with police departments in Andhra Pradesh, prompting Guntur police to act swiftly. Kothapet circle inspector Veeraiah Chowdary reportedly sent a special team to Coimbatore to secure the accused and complete legal formalities.
Ajith Kumar was already facing a cheating case registered at Tenali One Town Police Station last year. With his recapture, investigators are expected to examine whether he was involved in additional cybercrime operations while absconding. Police said further investigation into the case is under way.
