As part of the schedule, the city education officers and coordinators are making efforts to get the Anganwadi children enrolled in the nearest municipal primary schools. Also they are motivating and convincing parents to send their children to municipal schools in the city, instead of the private schools.

There are about 344 Anganwadi centres in 59 municipalities across the city. The school education department has formed 64 merged centres and set a target to form 70 more merged centres, said Shaik Saidasaheb, ULB coordinator for municipal primary schools.

He added that the centres have been given furniture like desks, chairs and 32-inch televisions. There are about 75 primary municipal schools in the city, which have introduced the English curriculum, and the coordinators have got to identify those parents sending their children to the private schools in the catchment areas. They are taking the help of the census registers, available at schools, to identify these parents.

On Saturday, the coordinators will get the 5th class students enrolled in the nearby municipal high schools. They are targeting to make 10 per cent enrolments in high schools.

The programme will end on Monday and the coordinators will focus on the enrolments of students in classes VIII and IX at municipal schools on the day.
