Constable hangs to death at police stn

Vijayawada: A police constable hanged himself to death at Chinthakommadinne police station in Kadapa district. The deceased was R Vijayaram (34) from Akkayapalle. Though he committed suicide on Saturday night, police maintained secrecy until Sunday afternoon. However, they did inform his wife and relatives about his demise. According to police, Vijayaram had a love marriage with Vijaya Bhanu 14 years ago when he was a home guard in Chitvelu. Vijayaram had taken a loan of 20 lakh from a bank and built a house in Akkayapalle. He also mortgaged his wife’s jewellery worth 5 lakh. This landed him in debt trap. Recently, he purchased a car which led to an argument with his father. Following the wordy duel over this, he left for his shift at the police station on Saturday morning. As he did not return home until late night, his wife called him and asked about his whereabouts. The constable replied that he was finishing some pending work. On Sunday morning, Chinthakommadinne police called Vijayaram’s father and wife and informed them that he committed suicide at the police station.

Police book techie for abetting wifes suicide

A software engineer in Pune has been booked for allegedly abetting his wife's suicide. The woman jumped from the balcony of their sixth-floor apartment after being forced to quit her job and being subjected to household chores by her husband. The woman's father filed a complaint against the suspect, stating that his daughter was a teacher and her husband did not allow her to work. She was taken to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead.

Amroha police to escort women returning from late-night shifts

Amroha police in Bijnor, India, will now provide escorts for women and girls returning home after late-night shifts. The initiative is aimed at enhancing the safety of working women and reducing incidents of sexual assault. The police will strategically park their Dial 112 Police Response Vehicles in visible locations to ensure a reassuring police presence. This move comes after a group of youths stalked schoolgirls in the area, resulting in the girls discontinuing their attendance at school.

CMDA to build police station at Kilambakkam

The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) is inviting tenders to construct a police station in the proposed Kalaignar centenary bus terminus in Kilambakkam. The police station will have facilities for law and order and traffic inspectors, CCTV rooms, an armoury room, and a control room. The terminus is expected to handle around 226 buses and will have CCTV cameras installed for passenger safety. Meanwhile, the CMDA is also constructing a new bus terminus in Chengalpet to decongest the area. Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has recommended operating bus services instead of building a proposed metro line between Siruseri and Kilambakkam due to low estimated ridership.
