Vijayawada: The 2nd additional civil judge court remanded a vacant reserved circle inspector, Batthula Srinivas Rao, to judicial custody for cheating a person to the tune of 40 lakh. Srinivas was suspended prior to Judge B Devender Reddy ordering the police to remand the accused.
One Surabatthula Rama Rao had lodged a complaint with Nagarampalem police of Palnadu in November 2021, stating that Batthula Srinivas Rao, then sub-inspector of Narasaraopet, and his wife approached him, and requested 40 lakh for setting up a rice mill.
The complainant believed them and loaned the amount.
But the accused did not set up a rice mill, nor did he return the money when the complainant asked him. The complainant then lodged a complaint with the Nagarampalem police.
Nagarampalem police registered a zero FIR and the case was later transferred to the Rompicherla police station. Police arrested the accused on Thursday. He was produced before the court the same day.
