Tirupati: The Chittoor police arrested a notorious inter-state dacoity gang involved in multiple crimes including bike thefts, dacoity, chain snatching among others in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Chittoor SP VN Manikanta Chandol stated that the four accused hailed from Karnataka and were identified as Shiva Kumar, Rehan, Parashuram, Kumar and M Chandrasekhar.
According to the Chittoor SP, this gang was involved in multiple chain snatching offences reported at Puthalapattu and Irala mandals recently. Following a spike in chain snatching incidents, the district police wing formed six special teams to nab the inter-state gang who frequently shifted base between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu after committing multiple crimes in Andhra Pradesh.
In a chain snatching incident reported on Oct 26 at Thenepalli in Puthalapattu mandal involving this gang, a middle aged women identified as M Prameela sustained grievous injuries and lost her life.
After a thorough investigation, the district police wing nabbed the notorious gang and recovered gold ornaments, a car and two bikes from the possession of the accused.
Stating that the key accused in the case, Shiva Kumar, is an accused in more than 40 cases registered against him at Mysuru, Doddaballapur, Hoskote, Kolar and other districts in Karnataka, the Chittoor SP appreciated the Puthalapattu police and the Chittoor crime police for arresting the notorious interstate dacoity gang within a short span of time.
