Eluru: A first-of-its-kind Children's Traffic Park was inaugurated at the Eluru district police headquarters on Sunday. The unique initiative aims to impart road safety education to children in a playful and engaging manner. Constructed at a cost of ₹84 lakh with the support of the MP and MLA, the park is a testament to the successful collaboration between the Eluru Urban Development Authority (EUDA) and the Eluru police.
P Dhathri Reddy, IAS, who conceptualized the park, emphasized its significance in reflecting the administration's vision of integrating learning and safety. She expressed gratitude to the EUDA and Police teams for bringing the idea to life. The park's design incorporates various interactive elements, including gamification of traffic rules, virtual reality (VR) games, cycle tracks, and life-sized road elements, making it an engaging platform for children to learn about road safety.
SP K Pratap Shiv Kishore highlighted the park's educational value, noting that it not only teaches children about traffic rules but also instills lifelong awareness of traffic etiquette, such as helmet use, zebra crossings, and monsoon safety.
The park's potential to educate parents accompanying their children was also underscored. Plans are underway to train all school children in the district through mission-mode initiatives, utilizing the park as a resource.
The inauguration event featured a ‘take & read' book stall, curated under the guidance of JC Dhathri Reddy, which offered traffic-themed and children's storybooks. The stall received warm appreciation from parents and teachers. Future plans include organizing school field trips, police-child traffic walks, and monthly safety quizzes at the park.
