Chief Justice Dheeraj Singh Thakur stresses constitutional guardianship on Republic Day

Vijayawada: The 76th Republic Day was celebrated at the Andhra Pradesh high court on Sunday. Chief Justice Dheeraj Singh Thakur unfurled the national flag and received the police salute, emphasising the judiciary's vital role as the guardian of the Constitution.Addressing the gathering, Justice Thakur highlighted the importance of judges and lawyers acting responsibly to uphold the Constitution's principles. He expressed hope that the Republic Day celebrations symbolised India's continued progress as a sovereign, socialist, secular, and democratic republic. Reflecting on the nation's journey since 1950, he praised India's emergence as a model republic, providing equal rights and opportunities for all sections of society. Justice Thakur paid tribute to the visionaries who crafted the Constitution, blending traditional values with modern aspirations.Advocate general Dammalapati Srinivas stressed the responsibility of lawyers in safeguarding the Constitution's spirit and urged them to connect with ground realities. Bar Council president N Dwarkanath Reddy and high court bar association president K Chidambaram echoed the sentiment, emphasising the judiciary's role in fostering public trust and development.The event was attended by prominent judges, legal officials and members of the bar association and bar council.
