Brain dead girl gives lease of life to 4 people

VIJAYAWADA: Grieving family members of Chinnabattina Mytri Tejaswini (27), who was declared brain dead following a bike accident on Tuesday night, decided to donate her organs, and give a new lease of life to four people. The family members of Tejaswini, an active campaigner of

organ

donation, and who had participated in many programmes promoting the cause, were hoping against hope that she would recover.

Tejaswini had received a severe head injury after a drunk constable hit her bike from behind, on Tuesday. She lost control of her bike and hit the median. Tejaswini slipped into coma following a brain haemorrhage. Doctors, who tried hard to save her, declared her brain dead on Wednesday after she did not respond to treatment.

, approached the family members for organ donation. Initially, the family members were hoping she will be revived, and wanted the treatment to be continued.

After consulting the doctors, representatives from Jeevandan and the pastor of the church where Tejaswini used to visit, counselled the family members. They convinced the family to fulfil the cause Tejaswini promoted.

, and brother Michael Raviteja agreed for organ donation. Doctors at Metro Hospital made arrangements for harvesting her vital organs. The procedure was completed by 4 pm on Thursday.

Tejaswini’s heart was sent to Global Hospital in Chennai, and liver to Apollo Hospital in Visakhapatnam. The city police provided a green channel for the ambulance carrying both the organs to

airport. One of her kidney was sent to Vijaya Hospital in Vijayawada, and the other to Narayana Hospital in Nellore. The eyes were donated to LV Prasad hospital in Vijayawada.

City police commissioner, D Gautam Sawang, visited the hospital, and consoled Tejaswini’s family. He assured help from the police department, and promised they will stand by the family. He also assured that the constable who was responsible for the accident will be punished.
