Boy leg-cuffed in madrasa in Nandyal district, probe launched after viral video
Tirupati: Banaganapalle police and the Nandyal district child protection committee has launched a probe into the inhumane act of leg-cuffing a minor boy at a madrasa at Banaganapalle. People at Banaganapalle were shocked when they saw a 11-year-old boy leg-cuffed and walking on the streets. The pictures and videos of the inhumane incident went viral on various social media platforms on Monday. After the incident created a furore, Banaganapalle police launched a preliminary enquiry and found that the 11-year-old was subjected to an inhumane punishment. According to Banaganapalle SI Duggi Reddy, the parents of the child got separated recently and their three children have been living with the mother at Idgah Nagar locality at Banaganapalle. The boy was reportedly tied with iron chains to a wooden log for being mischievous and irregular to classes at a local madrasa in Banaganapalle of Nandyal district. "As the boy was irregular to madrasa, it is learnt that upon the request from his mother that the staff at the madrasa leg-cuffed him in a bid to discipline him. Since this is an inhumane method of punishment, we have registered a case and have launched a thorough investigation", SI Duggi Reddy stated. District child protection officer (DCPO) Swapna Priya Darshini said the child will be produced before the Child Welfare Committee tomorrow as per juvenile justice act for care and protection of the child.
