Bhogapuram airport to be operational by March ’26

Visakhapatnam: The Alluri Sitarama Raju (ASR) greenfield international airport is expected to commence operations by March 2026, ahead of its initial schedule, as construction works have been progressing swiftly. State govt is monitoring the project closely, with Union minister for civil aviation K Rammohan Naidu. Moreover, state ministers have been conducting regular inspections. Currently, over 45% of the construction work is complete. Initially slated for completion in Dec 2026, chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu had requested construction company GMR to expedite the project. Central minister Rammohan Naidu indicated operations would begin by June 2026, six months ahead of schedule. Minister Rammohan Naidu recently informed that the airport works are on rapid pace and inauguration would be much before the scheduled date. Given the rapid construction progress, authorities are aiming to inaugurate the airport by March 2026. Govt has instructed GVMC and VMRDA to proceed with road widening projects and prepare detailed project reports (DPRs) for elevated corridors and related infrastructure.
