BEE sets target for Andhra Pradesh to save 6.7 MTOE energy by 2030
Visakhapatnam: Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) of the Union ministry of power has set a target of 6.7 million tonnes of oil equivalent (MTOE) in energy savings for Andhra Pradesh by 2030. To achieve this goal, a roadmap covering key sectors such as industry, buildings (including appliances), transport, and others, has been developed. As part of this national mission, govt is placing significant emphasis on sustainable cooling, recognising it as a critical lever for addressing the rapidly growing demand for cooling solutions. To ensure that this demand is met sustainably, the BEE has introduced two building codes: the energy conservation and sustainable building code (ECSBC) for commercial buildings and the Eco Niwas Samhita (ENS) for residential buildings. These codes are intended for adoption by state govts and local bodies, ensuring that energy-efficient and climate-resilient infrastructure becomes the new norm across India. In addition, key household appliances such as air-conditioners, ceiling fans, and refrigerators have been brought under the mandatory standards and labelling programme to ensure that only energy-efficient products were used, helping reduce overall electricity consumption. The BEE has initiated several critical programmes across sectors, including the perform, achieve and trade (PAT) scheme.
