Tirupati: A 21-year-old B.Tech final-year student, identified as Bhavana, committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan in her hostel room near Rangampeta in Chandragiri mandal on Monday.
According to the police, Bhavana, a class topper at Mohan Babu University, had recently secured a Rs 17 lakh per annum job offer from a tech giant during the campus placements.
While what exactly led the B Tech student to the verge of committing suicide is being investigated by the police, her parents, Surendra and Janaki, were completely shattered when the private hostel management informed them about Bhavana's suicide on Monday night.
They immediately rushed to the SV govt medical college mortuary and were inconsolable. Fellow students at the hostel claimed that Bhavana was quite normal the whole day before the incident. After receiving an alert from the hostel authorities, Chandragiri police rushed to the spot, shifted the body of the deceased for post-mortem, and registered a case.
Meanwhile, representatives of various student unions staged protests, and her parents demanded a fair investigation to unravel the mystery behind Bhavana's suicide.
