"We have the prototype for a scooter that can handle emergency services in a rapid fashion. The mission is to arrive at the scene of medical emergencies as soon as possible and provide the patient with professional and appropriate medical aid until an ambulance arrives, resulting in many more lives saved. The

electric scooter

has been embedded with child resuscitation kits, life saving oxygen kits, emergency defibrillator, BP apparatus, Stethoscope, pulse oxymeter and basic medicines to be handled by trained medical technicians. The Avera electric scooter has been provided with DC/AC power socket to operate electronic medical devices,”

Akula Venkata Ramana

, founder and CEO of Avera New and Renewable Energy told TOI on Sunday.

"Emergency medical services do not work alone. As a team, they coordinate their efforts with the dispatch service as well as the medical team that will be taking over the care of the patient. Within the team, the EMT and paramedic work together to administer the right medications, stabilize the patient, perform CPR and document the interaction. Even physically transporting the patient needs to be done in partnership. Once the physical assessment is done, it will be necessary to determine proper treatment. This requires a high level of emergency medical science knowledge and understanding as to what interventions yield the best outcomes for patients," Dr Venkata Ramana said.

Avera has an electric scooter assembly unit in Nunna on the outskirts of Vijayawada. The company assembles the scooters at the unit which has an annual capacity of 25,000 scooters. The Avera scooter, called Retrosa, is designed to travel up to 70 km per recharge. The scooter batteries are also assembled at the

Nunna unit

, though the cells are imported from China. The batteries take up to 4 hours to recharge.
