AU, UGC promote ancient Indian knowledge in modern curriculum
Visakhapatnam: Passing on traditional Indian knowledge to future generations is essential, said GA Sharma, former professor of Sanskrit at Andhra University, while inaugurating a capacity-building program on integrating Indian knowledge systems into curriculum. The six-day program is organised under the Malaviya Mission Teacher Training initiative at AU with UGC support.UGC financial advisor Sudeep Singh Jain highlighted that since 2023, several initiatives have been conducted to bring ancient Indian knowledge to the forefront. So far, 8,000 teachers, 200 master trainers, and over 1,000 researchers have been trained. From next year, 35 specialised courses are proposed, with 64 research projects already completed and financial support ranging from ₹5 lakh to ₹25 lakh provided.

Vice Chancellor Prof GP Rajasekhar noted that while India needs new innovations, preserving traditional knowledge is equally vital. He pointed out the intricacy of Vedic mathematics formulas and stressed the importance of integrating ancient knowledge into education.Prof. K. Eswar Kumar, director of MMTTC, explained the significance and implementation of the program, noting that under the National Education Policy, ancient Indian knowledge has been included in teaching, learning, and research. Program coordinator Prof P Shyamala and others participated.
