VIJAYAWADA: A 23-year-old student from Machilipatnam died after he accidentally drowned in Silver Falls waterfall near Ontario in Canada. The deceased was identified as Polukonda Naga Lenin Kumar, who went to Canada for his masters. Lenin was studying MSc in computer science in Lake University, having gone to Canada in 2021. He recently gave his final semester examinations and was waiting for the results. As he had completed his studies, he was also searching for a job.On Monday, Lenin along with three of his friends went to Silver Falls. His paternal uncle Venugopala Rao said they received a phone call from one of his friends, who was with Lenin at the time of the incident. "They went on a pleasure trip to Silver Falls. While two of them were sitting on the bank, Lenin along with another friend went for a swim downstream of the falls. Lenin knows swimming and in fact he went inside and came back to the bund once," said Rao. Cops could only fish out bodyOn his second attempt of swimming in the flowing water, he somehow drowned," Rao added. Upon seeing Lenin struggling, his friends called for emergency response. The local police and rescue team rushed to the spot but they could only fish out his body. Machilipatnam MP Vallabhaneni Balashouri spoke to external affairs minister S Jayashankar and also with Sanjay Varma, the Indian high commissioner at Ottava, and requested them to help the family in bringing the mortal remains of Lenin back to Machilipatnam.
