Guntur: In a move aimed at improving connectivity to the capital region, the state govt decided to take up the reconstruction of the Guntur–Tadikonda–Thullur road on a war-footing basis. The govt directed the roads and buildings department to expedite the road construction work following complaints from people who faced difficulty in reaching the capital city due to the severely damaged road stretch.
Municipal administration minister P Narayana recently inspected the damaged stretch of road between Thullur and Tadikonda along with officials of the roads and buildings department and discussed plans for its reconstruction as part of the broader infrastructure development taking place in the capital region of Amaravati.
Several motorists and commuters informed the minister that the badly damaged road caused serious inconvenience to those travelling from Guntur to the capital villages during the inspection. They said that potholes and uneven surfaces made commuting difficult and urged the govt to take immediate steps to rebuild the stretch.
Speaking on the occasion, Narayana said the govt already initiated large-scale road development works across the capital region to strengthen connectivity from nearby cities. He said efforts were being made to improve road links from Vijayawada and Guntur to Amaravati so that people could travel to the capital without difficulty.
The minister noted that the road stretch from Tadikonda to Rayapudi deteriorated significantly due to the continuous movement of heavy vehicles. He said that large construction activity was currently underway in the capital city, and the frequent movement of trucks and heavy machinery carrying construction materials severely damaged several roads in the area.
Narayana said the R&B department had already completed the tender process for the reconstruction of the road, and preparations were underway to begin work soon. He assured that the road would be rebuilt with better quality standards so that it could withstand heavy traffic in the future.
The minister further stated that road development was a key priority for the govt as Amaravati continued to witness rapid infrastructure expansion. He explained that several internal roads and connectivity corridors were being upgraded to support administrative buildings, residential zones, and ongoing capital city works.
He expressed confidence that reconstruction of the Tadikonda–Thullur road would be completed within six months, which would significantly ease travel for commuters coming to the capital region from Guntur and surrounding areas.
