VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation (AP Chambers) on Friday welcomed the announcement of Finance Minister Nirmal Sitaramam to set up a Rs 1 lakh agri infrastructure fund, calling it a "visionary and much-needed steep to build adequate cold chains and micro food enterprises, thereby arresting the wastage of farm produce".

"By this, most farmers can yield better prices in domestic market for their farm produce and export to international markets to earn foreign exchange. It will give fillip to the Make in India concept," Sudhir Mulagada, chairman of the Visakhapatnam chapter of AP Chambers said in a statement.

"Government’s another holistic approach in procuring farm products from the farmers will improve liquidity of farmers is appreciable. The initiative of deregulation agricultural products list from essential commodities will lead to organised trading, improve scale and logistics benefit and bring about more capital into trade with handful of big traders competing with each other and better price realisation for farmers," the statement said.
