AP: 60-year-old woman trampled to death by an elephant at Kuppam

TIRUPATI: A 60-year-old woman was trampled to death by a wild tusker at

Rallapalli village

in

Santhipuram mandal

of

Kuppam constituency

in

Chittoor district

on Sunday.

S Papamma, wife of Subbanna living at Rallapalli village, went to attend nature's call at around 5 am on Sunday morning.

As hours passed by but Papamma never returned, family members who went in search of her were shocked to see her dead at the agricultural fields near her home.

SI Murali Mohan and

forest department officials

rushed to the spot and recovered the body of the 60 year old woman and handed it over to her family members after completing formalities.

Meanwhile, in another incident reported near

Chintarapalem village

in Gudupalli mandal, a farmer identified as Narayanappa who went to his farm was attacked by a wild elephant and sustained grievous injuries. Though he was rushed to the local government hospital, his condition was said to be critical.

Chintarapalem is about 20km away from the first incident spot and forest department officials are of the opinion that a wild tusker which got separated from its herd must have been responsible for the twin attacks.

Officials have advised farmers and locals to avoid venturing out of their homes alone and to move in groups.
