VIJAYAWADA: The police on Thursday arrested an NRI software engineer, Karnati Satish Babu (47), who allegedly lured and married five women one after the other. He married the victims without revealing about his previous marriages and that he had divorced them soon after the wedding.
The police acted on a complaint by one of the victims. The police said the accused had shot obscene videos of the complainant and threatened to upload them online if she lodged a complaint with the police. Satish Babu and his parents from Krosuru mandal of Guntur are settled at Guntupalli in Vijayawada.
According to Guntur Disha police, K Sri Lakshmi lodged a complaint on Tuesday stating she got introduced to one Karnati Satish Babu, working as a software engineer in Washington DC in the US. He told her that earlier, he got married once and divorced. On June 16, with the consent of both the families, Satish and Sri Lakshmi tied knots at a temple.

After marriage, Satish and Sri Lakshmi went to Hyderabad and stayed in a rented house in KBHP colony. There Satish compelled Sri Lakshmi to apply for a home loan worth 80 lakh. He also threatened to upload her obscene photos and videos online if she rejected his demand.
The complainant alleged that she was mentally and physically tortured by her husband in Hyderabad. After a few days, the victim went to Bengaluru on work, where the accused followed her and tortured her in the name of loan. He also threatened that he will move to the US leaving her in India.
Later, Sri Lakshmi realised that her husband had married four women before. Satish Babu married Shailaja of Vishakapatnam in 2007, Lavanya of US in 2014, Lakshmi of Narasaraopeta in 2017 and Divya of Nellore in 2019. All these marriages were held in the presence of Satish Babu's parents.
On receipt of the complaint, the police registered a case and launched an investigation. The police arrested Satish Babu and his father Karnati Veerabhadra Rao near Chuttugunta circle and during the interrogation, Babu revealed that he had married four women before marrying Sri Lakshmi. He also told the police that he got divorced from his first wife in 2017 and from third wife in 2020.
It was also revealed that his third wife Lakshmi lodged a complaint in 2019 and his fourth wife Divya filed a complaint in 2021 with the police after knowing that he married them without securing divorce from his earlier partners.
Guntur Disha police produced the accused persons before court which sent them to 14 days of judicial remand.
The police are also investigating whether the accused had cheated more women and indulged in extortion.
