Andhra Pradesh: Godadevi Kalyanam held on grand note at Dokiparru temple

VIJAYAWADA: Thousands of pilgrims thronged Sri Bhu Sametha Venkateswara Swamy temple at Dokiparru village of Gudlavalleru mandal in Krishna district to witness the Godadevi Kalyanam performed on a grand-scale on Thursday and Friday. The temple premises was reverberated with Govinda namam. Devotees attended the festivities by duly following the covid-19 protocols.

Daughters of temple founder, PP Reddy, Megha and Manajari organized Kalyanams as part of Sankranti festivities. While Manjari and Prem Kumar organized Sri Kodanda Rama Kalyanam on the occasion of Makara Sankranti on Thursday, Megha and Akhil couple performed Srinivasa Kalyanam on Friday.
The temple priests explained the significance of Godadevi Kalyanam, Kodanda Rama Kalyanam and Srinivasa Kalyanam before performing the rituals. They said that Godadevi originated from Bhudevi (mother earth) and wedded to Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy. The priests said that the Godadevi kalyanam would be performed on the last day of Dhanurmasam. They said the blessings of Lord and Goddess Godadevi would enable them to get abundant rains and bumper yields from crops. The priests said that Sankranti is a festival of harvest and offering prayers to Godadevi during the kalyanam is a thanks giving gesture to the mother goddess.
Temple premises was decorated with colourful flowers and glittering lights. The temple committee imported several tonnes of flowers to decorate the temple for the festivities. Hundreds of devotees acted as volunteers to help ease the pilgrim rush. Tollywood hero Vishal visited the temple on Friday and offered prayers. He along with PV Krishna Reddy released the calendar and dairy in the temple premises. “It was an amazing feeling to be in the temple. I am fortunate to get the opportunity to visit the temple and offer prayers,” said Vishal.
The devotees have also crafted eye-catching rangavallis in the temple premises. Devotees have performed Edurkollu and recited Annamacharya Sankeerthanas. Meanwhile, the temple trustees PV Krishna Reddy, Sudha Reddy, PV Subbareddy, Sumalatha, P Veera Reddy, Vijayalakshmi, Kommareddi Bapireddy, Vijayabhaskaramma were also present during the kalyanams.
