TIUPATI: TDP MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy asserted that state-owned Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited's decision to establish an integrated refinery and petrochemical complex at Ramayapatnam port in Nellore district will significantly boost the efforts of the TDP-led NDA govt in transforming the district into a major industrial hub in the country.

While BPCL will make a total investment of Rs 95000 crore in this mega project, the BPCL board has already approved the allocation of Rs 6100 crore towards executing various pre-project activities, including land acquisition, basic design engineering package, and front-end engineering design.

Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy recalled the efforts put in by chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu to pitch for the state when a team of BPCL officials met him in July this year.

"Chief Minister convinced the BPCL board that Andhra Pradesh, strategically placed on the eastern coast, has tremendous petrochemical potential and promised to allocate an extent of about 5000 acres of land required to ground the integrated refinery and petrochemical complex of the BPCL in a hassle-free manner," Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy stated.

The Nellore MP noted that the BPCL refinery and petrochemical complex at Ramayapatnam will be one of the largest refineries on India's east coast, following the 15 MTPA Paradip refinery by the Indian Oil Corporation in Odisha and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited's expanded refinery at Visakhapatnam.

Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy asserted that in addition to BPCL's main refinery, 15 ancillary industrial units are set to be established in Nellore district. Together, approximately one lakh jobs will be created for the local youth, which is a significant step in accomplishing the NDA govt's target of creating 20 lakh jobs for the unemployed youth in the next five years in Andhra Pradesh.
