VIJAYAWADA: A 70-year-old man was arrested by the police on Sunday for allegedly raping a
five-year-old girl in Guntur district
. The accused used to sell candy and biscuits in a small shop along a village road.
Police inspector B Suresh Babu
said that the accused would sell eatables that kids like the most. Children in the vicinity would come to his shop regularly. The victim used to go to his shop often. On November 16, the girl went to the shop as usual to buy something to eat.
The accused lured her with extra chocolates and took her inside the shop and allegedly raped her. The girl after returning home told her parents about the incident. Though the parents were hesitant to lodge a complaint initially, on Sunday they approached the police.
Following a complaint from the parents, the police launched investigation and arrested the accused.
The girl was sent to Guntur Government General Hospital for medical examination and treatment.
The accused was booked under section 376 of IPC and section 5(m) of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
