TIRUPATI: Five persons including three armed reserve constables were arrested in connection with a highway robbery reported along the Renigunta-Vadamalapeta highway in Chittoor district on August 7.
Renigunta rural CI G Amarnath Reddy told reporters that B Ravi Kumar and Shaik Siraj, AR constables working in Tirupati and O Ramanjaneyulu attached to AR-Kadapa, teamed up with T Venkatapathi Raju and E Naresh, waylaid a car posing as policemen, near Badrappanaidu Kandriga on Vadamalpeta road on September 7.
After assaulting the inmates of the car identified as K Chenchaiah Naidu and R Subramanyam, the gang fled away in the stolen car.
Renigunta police who registered a case and took up investigation, managed to arrest all the five including the three AR constables on Tuesday.
The police department has placed all the three constables under suspension with immediate effect.
