Ambati remanded in protest case after bail in CM remarks case

Vijayawada: YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader Ambati Rambabu faced mixed legal outcomes on Monday, as Guntur courts delivered contrasting orders in multiple cases against him. While he secured bail in a case related to alleged derogatory remarks against chief minister Chandrababu Naidu, he was simultaneously remanded to judicial custody in connection with a separate protest-related case.The Guntur special mobile court granted bail in the case registered by Nallapadu police for allegedly insulting the chief minister, while dismissing the police custody petition seeking further interrogation. However, Rambabu's relief was short-lived, as another pending case kept him behind bars.
In a separate development, the special judicial magistrate court in Guntur remanded Ambati to judicial custody for 14 days in connection with a case linked to a YSRCP protest against the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) policy in medical colleges. The court ordered that he remain in remand until Feb 22, 2026.Earlier in the day, the Pattabhipuram police produced Ambati before the Guntur court after bringing him from Rajahmundry Central Jail on a PT (Prisoner Transit) warrant. Police said his presence was required for further legal proceedings in a case registered for allegedly misbehaving with police personnel during a YSRCP agitation held on Nov 12, 2025. According to police sources, the case includes charges of obstructing public servants, violating prohibitory orders, and creating a law-and-order situation during the protest. After completion of court formalities on Monday, Ambati Rambabu was shifted back to Rajahmundry Central Jail.The developments sparked political reactions, with YSRCP leaders and supporters closely monitoring the case. Party leaders alleged that the police targeted Ambati Rambabu by filing multiple cases to keep him behind bars, while police officials maintained that all actions were taken strictly as per law and court directions.
