VIJAYAWADA: People who had held deposits up to Rs 20,000 in AgriGold are likely to receive cheques on November 7.
The state government has released Rs 1,150 crore towards payment, said home minister Mokathoti Sucharitha, on Tuesday.
AgriGold was established in 1995 and collected deposits from 32 lakh people across
Andhra Pradesh,
Telangana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Odisha, Chhatisgarh and Andaman and Nicobar islands to the tune of Rs 6,380 crore.
Sucharita said chief minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy had promised to the depositors in AgriGold during his padayatra that the YSRC government will pay deposits up to Rs 20,000. The home minister said the TDP government could not keep its promise to pay small-time depositors. Sucharita said efforts were being made to seize AgriGold’s assets and hand them over to the court.

Relief Committee coordinator Lella Appi Reddy said the TDP government had tried to curb the agitation of the 9,50,000 Agrigold victims during its five-year regime.
