8 TDP workers killed in stampede during Chandrababu Naidu's roadshow in Andhra Pradesh

At least eight people were killed and five others seriously injured in a stampede during Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu’s roadshow at Kandukuru in Andhra Pradesh’s Nellore on Wednesday evening.

VIJAYAWADA: At least eight people were killed and five others seriously injured in a stampede during Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu’s roadshow at Kandukuru in Andhra Pradesh’s Nellore district on Wednesday evening.The injured were admitted to a nearby hospital. Three of the TDP workers died after falling into an open drain while four others were crushed to death.The deceased were identified as Chinna Kondaiah of Ammavaripalem, Kakamani Raja of Gurramvaripalem, Devineni Ravindra Babu of Atmakur, Yatagiri Vijay of Orugusenupalem, Kalavakuri Yanadi of Kondamudusu, Purushottam and Rajeshwari. One of the deceased was yet to be identified.Naidu cancelled his programme and rushed to the hospital.He consoled the bereaved families at the hospital.The TDP chief announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to the next of the kin of those killed in the incident and education for the deceased's children in NTR Trust educational institutions.TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh also expressed shock over the incident and said that the party would provide better healthcare to the injured.The TDP chief reached Kandukuru for his three-day tour as part of the party’s “Idem Kharma” (What is this fate) programme.
