KRISHNA DISTRICT: Police arrested seven persons for allegedly holding tantrik rituals and sorcerous prayers at a residence at

Chevitikallu village

under Kanchikacherla mandal in

Krishna district

on Monday.

The main accused was identified as Thota Srinivas, the resident who, along with his family members, held the ritual. According to Kanchikacherla sub-inspector

D Sandeep

, they received a tip off from the locals in the morning and raided the house.

The family members were caught red-handed performing the black magic-puja inside a 11-foot deep hole in the house. Police said that locals observed suspicious movement in their house and heard loud screams and chants.

"That is when the locals deduced that they were performing the ritual hoping that Srinivas would get a decent job," said the police.

The accused dug up the hole in their living room and hoped to find a coconut in the pit. Meanwhile, rumours of human sacrifice spread like wild fire, causing panic among the residents.

Police clarified that no human sacrifice had been observed by them at the house. Srinivas decided to do the ritual after believing the superstitious words of a saint and relatives. All of them were taken into custody and cases are yet to be booked by police. The investigation is still on.
