7 arrested for acid attack on Nellore couple

Vijayawada: Police arrested seven persons for the acid attack on a couple in Kaligiri of Nellore on April 4. According to police, couple Gunapati Nagarjuna Reddy (40) and Ramadevi are running a grocery store and a mobile phone shop on Kaligiri town road. On the day of incident, after closing the shop, the couple were returning home on a two-wheeler. When they reached Nataraju layout area, two unidentified men attacked them with acid. They immediately ran into a nearby house in a bid to save themselves. Investigation revealed that a temple priest, Undragunda Nagendra Babu, and the victims are living in adjacent houses in Kaligiri. Nagendra Babu bore a grudge against the couple as he believed that they had a role in his wife’s separation from him. He hatched a plan to eliminate them with the help of Sai Kumar, Naresh, Ravi Varma, Karthik, and two others.Police found the role of 11 people in the crime and are searching for the absconding persons.
