65 persons from Andhra Pradesh brought home under 'Operation Kaveri'
VIJAYAWADA: Sixty-five persons hailing from Andhra Pradesh were brought to India from war-torn Sudan under the Union government's evacuation mission, 'Operation Kaveri', reports Madhu Rasala.
As per ministry of health and family welfare advisory guidelines one person in Delhi and four in Kochi were quarantined due to lack of a yellow fever vaccine certificate, and the remaining 47 reached their homes in Andhra Pradesh safely.
The Centre had identified a total 71 persons from AP in Sudan. Out of the remaining six persons, one reached Jeddah, one reached the port of Sudan, and four persons will reach the port of Sudan shortly and then make their way to India, according to official sources.
As per the directives of CM Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, distressed Telugu people of AP coming from Sudan to various international airports were being safely transported to their homes.
The repatriation is being organised by AP Bhavan officials in Delhi, Andhra Pradesh Non-Resident Telugu Society (APNRTS) and other district administration officials.
APNRTS president Venkat S Medapati said that Telugu people from Sudan reaching New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Kochi airports were being safely repatriated to their hometowns. The AP government provided local flight, road transportation, and other logistical support to 24 distressed Telugu people coming from Sudan so far.
While AP Bhavan Officials in Delhi and APNRTS arranged for local transportation to Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, and Tirupati by airways and roadways, designated district administration officials are assisting in transportation to their home towns. He appealed, family members of any distressed and still stuck in Sudan may reach out to APNRTS 24/7 helpline numbers 0863 2340678, 85000 27678 (WhatsApp) or email helpline@apnrts.com for immediate repatriation support.
Himanshu Kaushik, additional resident commissioner, AP Bhavan in Delhi, P Hemalatha, CEO, APNRTS and other officials under the guidance of Mutyala Raju, political secretary (GAD) are coordinating for the safe return of Telugu people belonging to Andhra Pradesh.
Returnees from Sudan expressed gratitude to the government of India and the Prime Minister for proactively initiating the evacuation programme through ‘Operation Kaveri’ and thanked chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy for repatriating to their homes safely by arranging local transportation facilities.
