Vijayawada: Chittoor police arrested five more people on Sunday for selling plots worth crores of rupees through registrations with fake documents in the district.
According to the police, the value of the plots runs into crores of rupees. A few officials were bribed and fake documents were prepared. Illegal registrations were done without the knowledge of the actual owners.
The police arrested a sub-registrar, a tehsildar and three VROs in the incident that took place in Chittoor on Saturday. “More people will be arrested soon,” said police.
Among those arrested is Chittoor sub-registrar J Sridhar Gupta, Puttoor tehsildar I Subrahmanyam, G D Nellore mandal Vepanjeri village VRO Dhananjaya, Nandaluru VRO Shivanarayana and Iruvaram VRO Babu. Dinesh Kumar of Chittoor recently complained to the police that his land was illegally registered without his knowledge. The accused were sent to remand.
