5 lakh devotees expected to attend Gunadala Lurthamatha fest beginning from today
Vijayawada: OVer 5 lakh devotees are expected to throng the 3-day 102nd Gunadala Lurthamatha Mahaotsavalu, set to commence on a grand note at the Gunadala Matha shrine from Monday in the city. The annual festival will be formally inaugurated at 7 am on Monday by Bishop Joseph Rajarao, in the presence of Father Meshapam Gabriel, Father Muvvala Prasad, Father Yeleti William Jayaraju Swamy, Father Thota Sunil Raju, Father Kolakani Marianna, Father G Kiran, along with other diocesan priests.As part of the festival, the hill, along with the shrine premises, Bishop Grassi High School Ground, and surrounding areas, was brilliantly illuminated with electric lights, creating a festive spiritual ambience.

To prevent traffic congestion and ensure smooth movement of devotees, huge barricades were erected along the hill road, Eluru Road, and in the vicinity of the Gunadala Matha Shrine. Officials from the police, revenue, Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC), medical, fire services, and other govt departments, in tandem, put in place comprehensive facilities, including security, sanitation, drinking water, healthcare, and emergency services.
For the benefit of pilgrims, the sacred art platform at Bishop Grassi High School Ground was beautifully decorated, enabling devotees to witness the holy puja programmes scheduled on February 9, 10, and 11. Further, RTC and railway authorities also announced special arrangements to facilitate travel for devotees during the Mahotsavams.
