VARANASI: Sensation prevailed in busy Pandey Bazar area under Kotwali police station of Azamgarh district when a youth was shot dead by some motorcycle borne miscreants on Thursday afternoon in full public view.
According to reports, Tulsidhar Banshi Yadav (25), a native of Kandva village under Kandhrapur police station, had gone to Pandey Bazar for some work.
He was moving around in the market when two motorcycle-borne miscreants opened fire on him and fled from the scene. The incident led to chaos in the market. Local traders and passers by immediately rushed Banshi to district hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
The motive behind killing could not be ascertained. Police were investigating the matter after sending the body for postmortem.
Theft: Cash and valuables worth Rs 11 lakhs were stolen from the house of the principal of an Arabic institute in Adampur area while Rs 3.50 lakhs cash of a tea vendor was also stolen from Khidkiya Ghat area on Wednesday night.
According to reports, Shamimul Hassan, the principal of Arbi Jawadia College and a native of Bhardwaji Tola under Adampur police station, has gone to London for the past few days. His son Nadim Akhtar, who is also a teacher in the same college, has gone to Pune for discourse. In their absence, Shamimul's wife Asma had gone to her parents's place in Azamgarh leaving the house locked from outside.
On Wednesday night some miscreants broke into their house and decamped with Rs 3 lakhs cash and ornaments and other valuables worth over Rs 8 lakhs. The incident came to light on Thursday morning. Police were investigating matter.
