The police were yet to make any arrest.
Contacted, Dokati station officer Nand Lal said, "It is not a case of minor or unmarried girl's abduction but a case of married woman, who went away with someone."
He further said that an FIR was registered against three persons Santosh Ram, Pappu Yadav and Lakshman on Monday and attributed the delay to ongoing investigation into the case.
The incident is related to Rampur village under Dokati police station.
According to reports, a few goons of nearby locality Dalan Chapra broke into the hut of daily wager Ganesh Gond around midnight on September 16, and forcibly took away his wife. Ganesh was not present in his hut at that time. Gond went to Dokati police station to lodge his complaint but was asked to wait till the police completed their investigation.
"The police refused to lodge FIR when I went to police station on September 17," Ganesh told TOI over phone from Ballia on Monday. According to him, his wife was abducted by three persons, all natives of Dalan Chapra.
