Watchman’s body found on women’s college roof
Varanasi: Sensation prevailed in Maharajganj area under Aurai police station in Bhadohi district on Monday morning when the body of a watchman was found lying in a pool of blood on the roof of Deendayal Upadhyay Women's Inter College.
Bhadohi SP Abhimanyu Mangalik said that upon being reported by the college principal that the watchman and peon, Hiralal Patel (55), did not open the gate from inside, Aurai police including ASP Tejveer Singh along with a dog sqad reached the spot.
After searching the premises, the police discovered Patel's body on the roof of the college building. Following evidence collection by the forensic team from the spot, the body was sent for post-mortem examination.
Based on a complaint lodged by the family of the deceased, an FIR was lodged against unidentified miscreants in this connection, the SP said, adding that teams were engaged to nab the accused and also to determine the motive behind the killing.
Initial investigation by the police revealed that the watchman was hacked to death by some unidentified miscreants. Police have also started interrogating some locals in this connection.
The college officials informed the police that Patel, a resident of Kumbipur area under Aurai police station, worked as a peon and also as a watchman. He used to close the college gate from inside at night and open it in the morning. On Monday morning, he did not open the college gate till late in the morning, when teachers, other staff, and students started gathering outside. Later, they informed the principal about it. After this, the Principal alerted the police.
