VARANASI: Radhey Shyam alias Gabbar alias Radhey Harijan, a dreaded sharp-shooter of Mukhtar Ansari gang, was eliminated during an encounter with police in Ghazipur district on Tuesday night. Police recovered one .9mm pistol, a country-made revolver and live cartridges from his possession.
According to SP (Ghazipur) L Ravi Kumar, acting on a tip-off, the special operation group (SOG) of district police had cordoned off Phulanpur railway crossing around midnight.
As per the information, three youth on a motorcycle were seen heading towards the railway crossing. On seeing the police, they made a U-turn to flee from the area. But, the SOG gave them a hot chase.
While moving on Jungipur Devkatia Road, the youth riding the motorcycle lost control on the vehicle due to which one of them fell on the road while two others fled from the scene. On finding himself surrounded by police, the miscreant opened indiscriminate fire. He was killed in cross-fire. Later, he was identified as Radhey of Nandganj.
Radhey had entered the crime world as a contract killer in 2004. Later, he became the sharp shooter of Mukhtar gang, said the police. A total of 12 cases, including murders, attempts to murder, loot and robbery, were pending against him with the police of Ghazipur, Chandauli, Mau, Kanpur and Ghaziabad. He had recently killed a murder witness in Mau. Police had declared cash award of Rs 50,000 on him.
