VARANASI: Chaos erupted at a wedding ceremony held at the Ramleela Ground in the city area of Ballia district, Uttar Pradesh, when the stage set up for the bride and groom suddenly collapsed.
The incident occurred late Wednesday evening while several VIP guests were blessing the newly-wed couple at the reception of a local BJP worker’s brother.
BJP district chief Sanjay Mishra said that he, along with former MP Bharat Singh and other party leaders, had reached the dais to bless the couple at the wedding of party worker Abhishek Singh Engineer’s brother when the collapse happened.
It is said that the dais was constructed without proper support, and the bride and groom’s sofa had been placed on a plywood base covered with a carpet.
Around 12–14 guests had stepped onto the stage and stood behind the couple for photographs when the structure gave way. Along with the guests, the bride and groom also fell as the surface caved in.
Mishra said, “Fortunately, nobody suffered any injuries in the incident.”
