Undertrial prisoner flees from hosp; FIR against jail warders

Varanasi: An under-trial prisoner, Pankaj Kumar Roshan, who was lodged in the district jail in Sonbhadra on charges of kidnapping a Class 10 girl student, escaped from the district hospital on Saturday evening.According to Sonbhadra's CO (City) Charu Dwivedi, Roshan, a native of East Champaran in Bihar, was lodged in the jail since Nov 27, 2024. He had respiratory issues, and following deterioration in his health condition, he was admitted to the district hospital in January.On Saturday, Roshan took advantage of the situation and fled from the hospital. Following the incident, the superintendent of the district jail lodged an FIR with Robertsganj police station, mentioning the escape of the prisoner.Based on the complaint of jail officials, a case has been registered against Roshan and also against jail wardens, including Shrikant Yadav and Vipin Kumar, who were deployed at the hospital. Teams have been engaged to nab the absconding prisoner, said the CO.Roshan was arrested in Nov, 2024 after an FIR was lodged against him for kidnapping a Class 10 girl student and demanding Rs 10 lakh as ransom to release her. He was residing in Kirbil area of Myorpur in Sonbhadra for some time before his arrest.
