Systematic approach can set city in order: Cong mayor candidate
Varanasi: The mayor post candidate of Congress, Anil Srivastava said protecting the interests of the public and their prosperity is the topmost priority of his party. “The ruling government has neither the strong will, nor any concrete plan for the city,” he alleged. “We have a concrete plan for Varanasi, with schemes for even the poorest of the poor to live a life of dignity,” said Srivastava, during his poll campaign on Sunday.“Our first goal is to reduce house tax, repair drains and roads, include the newly declared wards systematically in the purview of the municipal corporation, fix traffic system and bring a solid master plan for city, in keeping with is global image,” he said. He added that despite being parliamentary constituency of the Prime Minister, the general public of the city is deprived of even basic facilities. The outer roads are smooth but the interiors are in a bad shape and deplorable condition, like overflowing sewers and waterlogging. “The situation is such that the temples too get submerged in overflowing sewerage,” he said.He further said that the people have to struggle even for clean drinking water. “There is no one to listen to the grievances of the people. The entire staff is busy painting the walls, while people are suffering from poverty and unemployment. If the governments of SP, BJP and BSP had addressed these problems timely, people would not have to face this plight. They made municipal corporation only a means of collecting money,” he alleged.
